Reel Rebels Radio hosts pop-up art exhibition, 'Perspectives', 8th-9th June, 2018, featuring the work of local comic-artist Danny F. (Skank Collective), South African born, London-based artist, Lindo Khandela, and mixed-media artist, Carleen De Sozer.

About

Set in the rehearsal rooms of Reel Rebels Music Studios, this exhibition breaks with art convention, disrupts art hierarchy and presents a passionate mix of disciplines. The private view includes a live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience with performance art by Demelza Toy Toy, poetry hosted by Dawn Jennings - including a piece about Windrush deportations written from first-hand experience by artist Rachelle Romeo; music, Ital Caribbean food and a licensed bar.

About the artists...

Danny F. (Skank Collective)...
Danny learned how to make comics by actually making comics - there were no comic colleges at the time! Soon he was not only illustrating strips but writing, editing and creating characters based on his humorous observations of people in his local area, Hackney, as well as his satirical portrayals of UK and global politics. He is best known for his work with Skank collective, dubbed as the UK's first (and only) collective of black comic-writers, and his contributions to Skank's recently published graphic comedy, "Scotland Yardie", which can be found in all good bookshops.

Lindo Khandela...
Lindo is a UEL graduate and is currently studying her MA in painting at the Royal College of Art. She specialises in mixed-media paintings which are chaotic, vivacious and bursting with colour. Lindo's themes are bold and unapologetic, detailed with glittering layers of patterns which are heavily influenced by her South African cultural background. Her choice of subject is often deeply personal, gleaming with social issues and wilfully playful.

Carleen De Sozer...
Over the last 18 years, Carleen has become well-known for being a diverse, tireless, multi-media powerhouse. After winning 2 art awards: 'Haringey Arts Council 6th Open Exhibition' and then the 'Apthorp fund for young artists' (summer 2000), she realised she could make a living from selling her art to the public. Her work covers many bases including graphic design, tattooing and airbrushing; from canvas to walls, from logos to CD covers, from t-shirt designs to teaching her skills to young people. De Sozer demonstrates a unique style and intense dedication within a variety of art practices..
