For the first part of Persistence of Vision, a series of exhibitions exploring the use of film and animation in current artists work, Steve Richards & Rachel Cattle present three films together with their accompanying publications. With images and scenes recreated from those key elements in films that stick in your head, whether it be a steam train crossing a bridge (39 Steps), or alka seltzer fizzing in a glass (Taxi Driver), the artists reedit movies and memories together using simple sculptural devices, domestic objects and old 45 records. Their three works exhibited all use appropriated imagery from film, folklore and music and yet as a whole each work is simply referencing these specific genres in culture, the elements are hard to pin down and are remixed together to form a sense of nostalgia and escapism through illusion.
