The extensive performance exhibition unfolds in the light-flooded upper floor and takes its spectacular end in the beginning of Basel's own performative big event: the Carnival.

About

Flanked by two of Basel's most lively cultural events - the "Museum Night" in January 2018 and the "Morgestraich", the start of the Basel Carnival in the night from 18 to 19 February 2018 - the Kunsthalle Basel is devoted to contemporary performative art for a whole month in Switzerland. A group of up-and-coming Swiss artists presents new and recently developed works.

In the framework of an exceptional cooperation, the sheer diversity and breadth of Swiss performance from 1960 to the present is celebrated in Basel. The Museum Tinguely, the Basel Barracks and the Kunsthalle Basel are approaching the countless aspects of the performative in collaboration with the Center culturel suisse Paris creation. This happens, for example, in the retrospective in 1974, when Jean Tinguely blew up the Basler Fasnachts-Comité in a performative act, or with a view into the present through new works developed by young artists.

The co-operation will last six months - from 19 September 2017 to 19 February 2018 - and builds on an interdisciplinary festival of the Center Culturel Suisse in Paris, which was implemented in 2015. On a joint initiative "PerformanceProcess" is now being further developed and the three Basler houses are dedicated to the strong and very present medium with their own view:
