Documentary photography capturing the excitement and intensity of live performance.
About
“Performance” is an exhibition documenting two of my favourite live acts, Grassy Noel & APE with Mai Nguyen Tri, and Rude Mechanicals.
"I photographed their performances mostly at Hundred Years Gallery and inside and outside London over the last six years or so. Their performances excite me whenever I see them. They are original and unique. I hope you can experience what I did at the time of shooting: an out-of-this-world experience that is mesmerising and full of energy".
Junko Rathmell was born in Saitama, Japan, in the 1970s. She began taking photographs at a young age but her first exhibition was of photographs taken on a smartphone, called “Think On”, at The Foundry in East London in 2005.
She is a member of Tunnel Art Collective and shows digital & analogue work at their group exhibitions.
She was the #NoFilter category winner of PIPA 2018 (Photobox Instagram Photography Awards), the award being presented by the main judge, Eamonn McCabe.
She is mostly drawn to people as her main subject and currently working on 35mm & 120mm black and white analogue photography.
