PANIK - CHANGING FACES

About

Against white walls and the thinking-space of a gallery, is it a juxtaposition or a symbiosis when a graffiti-work is hung? This exhibition engages the audience into dialogue with what is, in essence, the most omnipotent question of graffiti close-up- ‘Is this convincing as Art with a capital A?' To allow people to examine the artillery of tags, rendered in spray-paint and emulsion— art-materials as much of its time as the use of brightly-coloured industrial plastic in Abstract Expressionism, is to engage them with the most current movement in arts in the Urban Britain of today. "Creating work in the studio helps me move in the right direction, relax, delve into my thoughts and break down my style, which gives me confidence to experiment more on the streets. At the same time painting on the streets releases a lot of my inner tensions and gets my adrenalin pumping fuelling a lot of what's behind my paintings." Panik 2009
