About
A new exhibition by Véronique Avon opens 29th April at the Apothecary Gallery CIC, Hammersmith, London. The Opening Event will be on 29th April, and the exhibition will be on display until 24th May. Veronique's imaginatively vibrant work seeks to take you on a journey narrated by accompanying haikus. Refreshments will be provided at the Opening Event.
Having left Provence about thirty years ago, Veronique has been using oils to paint many landscapes inspired by her family roots 'in this land of sun and lavender,' as well as of Herefordshire and the River Wye, where she now lives with her family.Later, her traditional landscapes evolved into more imaginary rounded horizons, scenes of orchards, gardens and sea.
They are little worlds loosely inspired from Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s book The Little Prince - 'I wrote for each painting a Haiku poem, another special creative space, three short lines suggesting the landscape’s own little story.'
Alongside oil paintings, she explored Medieval Illuminations using other materials, working on a much smaller scale, playing with Celtic knotwork and angels and textured colours. The wonderful Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels have been her inspiration.
This colourful journey over the years has taken place through many exhibitions, as well as in printing her artworks onto greeting cards and prints.
After having put the canvases aside for a while, she is now enjoying working on illustrations for story books, her own compositions, as well as illustrating other writers’ tales. Black and white line drawings, watercolours, and more rhythmical Haiku poems are ‘blossoming’ on paper.Full information can be found on the website: http://www.apothecarygallery.org/whats-on/
