Deanna Evans Projects is pleased to present Medium Sized Mirage, a solo exhibition of recent fiber work by Catskill- based artist Padma Rajendran.
About
Medium Sized Mirage, is new work that is focused on recalling episodes of vanishing time, stories and events forgotten in the last several years since the start of the pandemic and birth of her daughter. The embrace of the soft, fragmented, and abstract captures an understanding of the liminal space of shifting relationships to body, other beings, and constantly shifting hierarchies of time. This work is in connection to drawing and the action of ritual within the home space from the momentous event to the bountiful to the banal. In these soft works, Rajendran works with shapes and symbols familiar but concealed behind delicate roving fibers, dyed silk, ribbons, textured marks of dyed and found patterns, clunky plastic mesh, and acrylic felt. These are continued experimentations of clash and combination of material, patterning and structure. This is Rajendran’s first solo show in New York City since 2020.
