About
Christine Hyde
I’m Christine Hyde, self-taught naive artist, semi retired now, work part time, who has attended lots of art classes. I like to paint what I see in passing, incorporating all the things I love, like home, markets, streets, people, friends, buildings familiar and not. Love to paint in bright colours and enjoy bird watching so sometimes a bird slips into view as they do anyway, everywhere.
I also like to guess what goes on behind windows rather than paint in blinds or curtains. Things may not appear in the right order, so can be a bit abstract or ‘artistic licence’. I usually start a picture from the bottom of the page and work up.
I like my paintings to show humour and optimism, and if I can I hope my paintings “lift the spirit”, it’s my aim.
Jean Stanford
I always wanted to do art but did not take it up until I retire and then began attending art classes in Rotherhithe and Southwark.
I use both oils and pastels but enjoy watercolours the most.
When out and about if I see anything pleasing or funny, I take a photograph with the intention to paint the scene later on.
I hope you enjoy my work.
