NOI is an exhibition of recent work by UK based painters Jake Clark, Adam Hennessey, Chris Shaw and Josephine Wood. The exhibition presents a reinvigorated approach to figuration and an enquiry into the subject of painting in contemporary art. The artists paint definitive images which are direct and self sufficient in form and content.  Centralised figures,  objects and sculptural forms occupy the foreground.   Darkly humorous,   the mundane and inertia of everyday life are amplified to monumental status. Blocks of colour, heavy handed paint, expressive line and dramatic modeling, all feature in their work.   

Rather than creating dialogue within the painting, the featured artists painting process is a search for clarity. Their intentions moves towards a more responsive subject of painting where the figure and object are unashamedly defined. There is a deliberate opaqueness which leans towards Germanic painting influences.
