About

New Scottish Artists heralds a new partnership between the Royal Scottish Academy and the Fleming-Wyfold Foundation. Following the RSA New Contemporaries 2014 exhibition at the RSA (15 February — 12 March), a selection of works from the show will come to the Fleming Collection, offering the artists the opportunity to showcase their work to a London audience. The Royal Scottish Academy has long been a supporter of education and emerging artists. Having presented various annual student competitions and shows throughout the 20th century, radical changes were made in 2008 to replace the former RSA Student Exhibition with RSA New Contemporaries, the UK's largest survey of emerging artists. As part of this initiative the RSA began to select smaller numbers of artists directly from their degree shows, inviting them to make new works to show in the RSA galleries the following spring. This new annual survey offered artists the opportunity to show a body of work, rather than one work in isolation, and also developed stronger collaborative links with the Art Schools and Schools of Architecture in Scotland. Producing a world-class, yearly account of the best of Scottish graduates under one roof and in a singular publication, RSA New Contemporaries has become a key event in the exhibiting calendar, attended by curators, collectors, gallerists and visitors from across Europe. By summer 2014, 360 artists will have exhibited in RSA NC, and 60 more will have been selected at the 2014 degree shows. The accompanying RSA publication will showcase all of the artists exhibiting in RSA NC 2014. #NewScottishArtists
