An Exhibition Of New Collages From David Orme

Sidney and Matilda are delighted to announce the forthcoming exhibition ‘LOT’ from Sheffield based Artist David Orme.
A graduate of the Royal College London; David has exhibited internationally, his show will be the first ever solo exhibition taking place at the gallery in Sheffield.
Like alternative cabinets of curiosity, David Orme’s collages display an assortment of quirky forms and awkward configurations that encourage contemplation and re-interpretation. In his forthcoming exhibition visitors will encounter a new body of work entitled ‘L O T’;
a series of large-scale and small-scale, fabric collages.
Drawn to the utility and potency of specific objects, including how they are displayed, Orme’s collages allude to items such as: sentimental keepsakes; folklore-like artefacts; charms; religious relics; travel souvenirs; grave goods & symbolic offerings.
Each collage fragment is painted, cut, and drawn into repeatedly, until new and indistinct forms emerge.
These semi-abstract elements are arranged in various configurations before a cohesion determines it is complete.
Besides inviting the viewer to comprehend the meaning of the fragments and/or their interrelations Orme’s collage arrangements are a window into the realm of a process: Orme elaborates...“Materiality and composition lay bare a system of editing; a methodology that echoes the practice of collecting and curating objects possessing a value”.
David will be releasing a limited edition print, commissioned specifically for the exhibition.
A limited edition of fifty, five-colour riso prints, signed and numbered by the Artist will be available direct from the Gallery from May 30th.
LOT will be the first ever solo exhibition at Sidney & Matilda, as well as being the first time David Orme has shown work outside of London.
