About

Music has been one of the most outgoing and creative industries over the past 60 years. Alongside this industry stood the iconic albums, photoshoots and magazines that often go unnoticed. S N A P is a high quality photo-book, with each edition showcasing the amazing work of a particular photographer. Many musicians were defined by their image to the mass media, and it was the photographers who were in the front line of creating these.

The first volume of S N A P showcases the work of Neil Mackenzie Matthews. Neil's work was often featured in the cult music magazine Flexipop! which planted his feet firmly as an established music photographer in the industry. In this edition of S N A P Music Photography Volume 1, expect to see intimate sessions of the Jam (and specifically Paul Weller), Toyah, Hazi Fantazee, Robert Smith of The Cure, Ian McCulloch of Echo and The Funnymen and The Stranglers. This volume features work that appeared in Smash Hits, No.1 Magazine, Record Mirror, Sounds, The Face and The Guardian with artists including Madness, Take That, Little Richard, Sade, Madonna, Spandau Ballet, Destinys Child, Sinead O’Connor, Wham! and The Proclaimers. One of the trademarks of Neil’s work is a sense of trust between subject and photographer, the composition paired with technicality of his work combines to make his images truly memorable.

S N A P is the first of two volumes featuring Neil’s work.

The book will be published on June 27th 2019 and will be available to purchase at the exhibition alongside print editions created in Jealous Print Studios.
