About
This exhibition brings together around a long four-meter frieze, The Warriors, presented without frame as the artist liked it, several works over three decades (1966 to 1996).
The question of violence runs through the work of Nancy Spero (1926-2009): the violence of war (her memorable War Drawings from the time of the Vietnam War), symbolic or physical violence against women and minorities (she was one of the first to fight publicly for the place of women in the world of art), legitimate violence of resistances (anti-Nazi fighters, opponents of Pinochet ...), poetic and expressive violence (Artaud). Whether referring to a specific conflict or making a trans-historical synthesis, Nancy Spero knew how to assemble and mount images drawn from multiple sources to produce dynamic works of a strength that remained intact and now entered into the history of the art.
