With this new body of work, Brady’s aim is to create paintings that are generous in spirit, but also find their way to occupy space and time in a frenetic, irregular, and ultimately surprising way.

In the last few years, Brady’s studio practice has taken a shift away from painting on stretched canvas and towards large scale site-specific paintings on unstretched canvas or paper.  The process of cutting and collaging large scale work, constructed mostly on the floor, has opened up Brady’s project. With the new work presented at NADA, Brady has found her way back to small, stretched oil painting on canvas.  The paintings breathe and shift with a restlessness she’s carried over from her large work. With a looseness that reshapes the forms, indirectly referencing the human body, she finds a language of everyday abstraction.

Brady creates her deliberate and gestural marks of bold colors, which are as much about painting as they are drawing.  Interested in a space between abstraction and representation, specifically in relation to the figure; human or otherwise - her work is constructed, deconstructed, and finds landing somewhere totally unexpected.

Brady received her BA from Smith College and her MFA from Boston University.  She was the 2017 recipient of the Ellis Beauregard Foundation Grant, a 2018 Hewnoaks Summer Fellowship as well as a 2019 MacDowell Colony Fellow.  Recent exhibitions include Steel House Projects, Rockland, Perimeter Gallery, Belfast and Portland Museum of Art, Portland, ME; Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects, New York, Mrs., Maspeth, and a residency/exhibition at Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Brooklyn, NY which received a mention by The New York Times.  Her solo exhibition titled Reversible Roles is currently on view at the University of Maine Museum of Art, Bangor, ME though May 2019.  Brady  lives and works in Camden, ME.
