An Illustrated Talk by Professor Malcolm Lochhead - Textile Artist & Fellow in Design at Glasgow Caledonian University

About

Textile artist Dr Malcolm Lochhead will lead the audience on a lighthearted journey through the not-so-delicate world of textile design and embroidery for the Church, Ceremonial and Community. He is currently working on a six piece design, themed 'The Creation' for York Minster. Outstanding previous works include the Cloth of Estate of King James IV for the Great Hall of Rothesay Castle (for Historic Scotland), as well as the Chapel Royal and Great Hall of Stirling Castle, plus commissions for Glasgow and Durham Cathedrals. Malcolm Lochhead was also responsible for the overall design of ‘Keeping Glasgow in Stitches', a major community arts project - part of Glasgow's year as European City of Culture in 1990. He was also involved in the opening of Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art, in 1996. A student of Embroidered and Woven Textiles at Glasgow School of Art from 1966-1970, and tutored by the legendary embroidery designer and textile artist, Kathleen Whyte, he was awarded the prestigious Lord Provost's Gold Medal for the Visual Arts in 1999. He is currently Professor of Visual Design at Glasgow Caledonian University.
