Moving Cities: a changing metropolis Finissage
08 Apr 2022
Anise Gallery
London, United Kingdom
Anise Gallery presents Moving Cities: a changing metropolis, exploring scenes of architectural development and highlighting the tension between new and old within a fluid urban landscape, with work by Helen Shulkin and Jeanette Barnes.
Seeking to find spaces which are most susceptible to change, Shulkin disrupts traditional tectonics resulting in spatial objects that take on an incredible plasticity, with a combination of volumes and shapes that form a colourful kaleidoscope of postmodern styles.
Barnes’ practice engages with the constant development and energy of the urban environment. Built up as a combination of ideas and experiences, Barnes brings together the most interesting aspects from different sketches rather than depicting one single moment, exploring the relationship between built environments and those who inhabit them.
Where Barnes responds to constant changes within the urban landscape, Shulkin envisions the beginning of a new illusory era, where cities have become clusters of moving dimensions, scattered in light and abstract shapes. Both artists capture the dynamic nature of cities, becoming multidimensional visions of movement and energy, reflecting the changing metropolises we are inhabiting.
