Common materials are transformed into unfamiliar objects, familiar objects into unusual images. Monika Brandmeier’s sculptures and photographs are concerned with their relationships to places and positions. The works become binding through their contact with walls or in reference to the edges of the pictorial surface. The determinations that Monika Brandmeier makes should therefore be understood less as absolute declarations than as a capturing and stabilizing of loose parts: something temporarily fixed that also raises questions about fastening techniques.
