About
Boldly provocative, wildly original, raw and compelling - this exhibition showcases the work of Charlotte Johnson Wahl.
For too long Johnson Wahl has been eclipsed by her talented children: Mayor Boris Johnson MP, writer Rachel Johnson, environmentalist Leo Johnson and Number 10 Policy Maker, Jo Johnson MP. This retrospective aims to redress the balance.
Powerful, personal and deeply moving, the exhibition presents a collection of stunning paintings that tell the story of Johnson Wahl's turbulent life. They chart marriage, motherhood and mental breakdown - followed by early onset Parkinson's disease.
At every stage, Johnson Wahl paints with unswerving honesty and power. She speaks for all the emotions of the human heart: sadness, confusion and rage - but also humour, joy and an intoxicating irreverence. Above all, these paintings reveal a deep understanding of the complex human condition, and an empathy for our struggle. A tough but ultimately redemptive journey.
