About

An exhibition of artworks ranging from large-scale canvases to intimate ink drawings. Pat’s work intuitively explores her interests in both the grandeur and the minutia of the natural world. Her canvases express her love of nature and are frequently balanced with undertones of environmental concerns that hang over our planet and natural resources.

“All the world’s a pattern, break it and be crowned or crucified” – Pat Mear.

While working and residing at Dartington Hall as a Warden of the Devon Centre for Further Education, inspired by the creative opportunities and the teachers who came for short residential courses, she decided to go to Croydon College of Art as a mature student.

“I specialised in Fine Art Painting at Croydon College of Art. It was an amazing change towards getting in touch with my real self again – helped too by the Maudsley Hospital after a difficult time in my life. My early work still reflected my conditioning with its hard-edged lithographs and copious notes, so I set myself tasks of seeking an inner truthfulness with intuitive writing, intuitive drawing and finally intuitive painting with some extremely large 5 foot canvases which have never been seen publicly, until now with the encouragement of Bethlem Gallery.”
