About
German Artist Michael Riedel (*1972) has created a body of work that is readily misunderstood and can’t easily be compared with any other. Similar to a Doubling Charm, by which objects replicate by the slightest touch, starting a chain-reaction of reentries, Riedel’s artworks attest to an ongoing process of replication within the art system. His exhibition CV at Kunsthalle Zürich centers around the Curriculum Vitae or résumé, this obsessively stylized form of human measurement for personal and artistic self-definition and commercialization, that in turn again will become a bullet point on Michael Riedel’s CV. The trope of reentry allows Riedel to speak of past, never realized, and future incidents as they continuously inform the CV. In the last two decades he has formulated a body of work based around the copy of art in art, where production seems independent to the creator, yet showing formal brilliance, critical clarity and elegant hermeticism.
The exhibition is accompanied by an artist book with a text by Michael Riedel and view of the Kunsthalle Zürich exhibition. To be launched on June 11th, 2017 at Kunsthalle Zürich (afternoon).
