About
People See Nothing, a group exhibition showing the work of Matt Antoniak, Max Lee and Sophie Lee, considers the idea of the the forgotten, the cast-off and of waste. The saying goes that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure, and as the exhibition has developed, this sentiment has become more central to the thinking around title of show. Each artist either recycles elements with a prior usage, reappraises overlooked quotidian objects and materials, or re-presents existing forms within a new context. Each of these approaches seek to bring into question notions of authorship, authenticity and value. In reference to the phrase’s idea of ‘treasure’, no artist is making a grand or ostentatious statement. Rather the works operate as quiet, considered gestures that transcend the sum of their parts.
M I L K are an artists’ collective based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Formed in 2015, M I L K offer a platform for emerging and early-career artists to showcase work, and have curated exhibitions nationally.
