First solo exhibition in Canada for British artist Mat Chivers. Sculpture, installation, drawing and film focused on the evolution of Artificial Intelligence and it’s potential impact on humanity and wider ecologies

About

Migrations is the title of an exhibition that presents a sculptural installation, a film, and a diptych drawing by the British artist Mat Chivers. The exhibition presents a body of work developed during a year long residency, that explore relationships between recent progress in Artificial Intelligence and some of the philosophical implications for us

The works presented in this exhibition weave together affinities between materials and locations in Quebec for their connotative potential, and forms that articulate the connections between old and new world states, to think about the dream of AI and the migration of consciousness from carbon based lifeforms like our own, to something other. Value judgements have been left out of the dialogue; suggesting that maybe it’s possible and essential, to view the development of AI as another natural evolutionary progression, albeit one with momentous implications for the future of life on Earth. The work poses the idea that it is how we navigate this moment that counts
