About

For pushin’ sumthin’ nice (feat. Kinlaw), Marie presents a series of discrete though interlocking new works as the opening Act of her new project La Bouchée.

La Bouchée takes the form of an experimental opera, which through exhibition, event and broadcast, will be performed as a number of separate scenes and acts along its course. Using Nouveau Roman literature, the plays of Luigi Pirandello, and Battle Rap as its point of departure, the work ultimately explores the combined potential of language and form; the fictions of re-enactment; and the disquieting nature of control.

Through a process of layering and staging objects, images and writing, a mercurial narrative will be presented in this first act. Characters such as BSwill make their inaugural appearance as object and image, whilst others will star simply as dematerialised and disembodied audio. Other audio will be played through sculpted structures, which interrupt the space and feature almost as characters themselves.

pushin’ sumthin’ nice (feat. Kinlaw), will feature a series of new audio works produced in collaboration with the musician Kinlaw.

This exhibition is part of the South West Showcase season of exhibitions and events at The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art
