The exhibition transfers this multi-layered approach into an individual, installation-based presentation of associations and dialogues that also responds to the building structure of the exhibition room. Architecture as a form of expression, as a mirror of its own time, is once again reflected in this way. Selected large-format colour images of very different objects and landscape views point to structural congruencies in the way things correspond with one another.
Particularly in the early years of her photographic career, Margherita Spiluttini devoted a number of black and white photo series to the buildings and areas of Vienna – the city where she has lived for many years now. Building gaps, peripheral brownfields and former industrial premises form the subject of an urban space that is constantly subjected to change; they denote interim situations, which speak of the past and point to the future, and in doing so take on their own significance – an aspect of fundamental importance to this photographer.
The importance of the archive to Margherita Spiluttini is evident from the fact that her complete image archive features in this exhibition in the form of slide shows and screen presentations.
