We are very pleased to announce the forthcoming show ‘Angels’ by Marco Villard (b.1992), following solo and group exhibitions in Athens and Los Angeles with Alkinois Gallery and Lobster Club, respectively. This will be Villard’s first exhibition in the UK.

About

Marco Villard was born In America in 1992, and raised in France with French and Spanish heritage. His large-scale, gestural paintings often feature the ciphers and archetypes that emerge from dreams and inherited stories. The ‘Angels’ paintings on view are part of a cycle of work produced shortly after a sudden bereavement, following compositional sketches and revisions on paper. These large, unstretched canvases present a deft and delightful immediacy, and convey an entrancingly hypnagogic narrative with their cast of angels and spirit animals.

‘Marco Villard’s practice spans several mediums such as painting, filmmaking, performance and poetry. is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York City. His work is firmly rooted in symbolism and evokes a meaningful sense of play. Paintings often portray nonsensical figures and animals, accompanied by a rich contrasting colour palette, a defining feature of Villard's work and stylistic choice that is uniquely informed by his colour blindness. Villard's oeuvre gives way to a compromise between free-flowing constitutions and art historical structures. Villard’s work exists outside the bounds of our contemporary technological society, utilizing mythical forms, overstated compositions, and humanist themes to create new dimensions, allowing viewers to gain from the intimately conveyed motifs of shared human experiences, such as childhood, loneliness, birth, and death.’
