About
This exhibition forms a major part of CHINA NOW (www.chinanow.org), a nationwide celebration of modern China and the largest festival of Chinese culture ever held in the United Kingdom. It will be held from 7 March to 12 April at LCC and will be free to the public.
MANHUA! CHINA COMICS NOW will reveal the heart and soul of 21st century China through the art and stories in contemporary Chinese comic books. The two simplified Chinese characters for âManhuaâ⢠are the same as those used in Japan for âMangaâ⢠and mean essentially âhumorousâ⢠(Man) âdrawingsâ⢠(Hua). Today the comicââ¢s medium has proved to be a powerful vehicle of imagination, communication and expression, driven by vibrant visual sequences. The language of âManhuaââ¢, modern Chinese comics, can bridge cultures and make the history, legends, fantasies and everyday lives of Chinese people today accessible to the widest public.
