About

Project Gallery is pleased to present Mandalas, a solo exhibition featuring 20 works by Tao Lin.

Tao Lin (b. 1983) is the author of ten books, including the novels Leave Society (2021) and Taipei (2013), and the nonfiction book Trip: Psychedelics, Alienation, and Change (2018). His writing has been published by New York Times, New York Times Book Review, Granta, Paris Review Daily, and Vice, among other newspapers and magazines. He is the founder and editor of Muumuu House, a small press and online magazine. He's working on a nonfiction book titled Self Heal. He lives in Hawaii. Visit his website at taolin.us.

“These are some of the mandalas that I drew over the past ten years, from 2014 to 2024. My only rule for my mandala form is to not have any rules. By using 8" x 8" paper, I'm able to turn the paper to draw from different perspectives (instead of having to put the paper on the floor and walk around it, like Jackson Pollock), and I'm also able, using this small paper size, to draw anywhere—sitting in front of a desk, standing in front of a tall desk, lying stomachdown on various floors.”   — Tao Lin

Project Gallery (est. 2020) is an online art gallery based in Brooklyn, which hosts solo exhibitions for artists as well as seasonal juried exhibitions and sponsors a quarterly artist grant. The gallery is proud to present this selection of mandalas curated and executed by Tao Lin. The selected pieces are captivating and intricate and show an excellent survey of his work over the last decade.
