SMORGASBORD is the first solo exhibition of the British photographer and visual artist Maisie Cousins in Germany.
About
Chaussee 36 Photo Foundation is thrilled to present the first solo exhibition of visual artist Maisie Cousins in Germany. The curated selection of works from 2017 to 2024 showcases Cousins' witty, seductive and socially resonant photographic explorations of nature and sexuality. Featuring work in extremely large format, as well as smaller, more intimate pieces, the exhibition presents the breadth of Cousins' distinctive visual language, in which the artist creates humorously ambiguous and vibrantly colourful close-ups of fruit, skin, bugs and other everyday objects. Both provocative and sensual, the exhibited pieces celebrate the female body, challenge the mainstream misogynistic notions of perfect and clean female beauty, and embrace the delicate interplay between attraction and repulsion.

Die Chaussee 36 Photo Foundation freut sich, die erste Einzelausstellung der bildenden Künstlerin Maisie Cousins in Deutschland zu präsentieren. Die kuratierte Auswahl von Werken aus den Jahren 2017 bis 2024 zeigt Cousins' witzige, verführerische und gesellschaftlich relevante fotografische Erkundungen von Natur und Sexualität. Mit Arbeiten in extrem großen Formaten sowie kleineren, intimeren Werken präsentiert die Ausstellung die Bandbreite von Cousins' unverwechselbarer Bildsprache, in der die Künstlerin humorvoll zweideutige und farbenfrohe Nahaufnahmen von Früchten, Haut, Käfern und anderen Alltagsgegenständen schafft. Die ausgestellten Werke sind sowohl provokativ als auch sinnlich und zelebrieren den weiblichen Körper, hinterfragen die gängige frauenfeindliche Vorstellung von perfekter und reiner weiblicher Schönheit und erkunden das delikate Wechselspiel zwischen Anziehung und Abstoßung.
