Created in response to Salisbury Arts Centre's annual Open Curatorial call out, Wearing and Bearing looks at the relationship between fashion and identity and the way that the things we wear - or don't wear - reflect our nature.
Lya Garcia considers the artificial nature of social conventions which define and restrain our appearance and bodily expression. Can we change by simply putting on someone else's clothes?
Paris-based curator Bettina Bauerfeind has been working with Lya to catalogue her work from the earl 1980s to the present. On show will be documentary photographs from Lya's early career, video works and crocheted sculptures.
