Luke Elwes explores the concept of embodied Landscape in Constable Country
About
These recent works on paper reflect the artist’s interest in the transient nature of place and memory. They capture the elemental flow of life on the tidal margins of the East coast and are made using the elements themselves, combining coloured pigments with silt and mud and inks washed with rain and salt water.
‘I want to convey something of the fragility and impermanence of this tidal territory, close by the Stour estuary and similarly flat under an East Anglian sky but quite different to that sense of timeless order & apparent tranquillity found in Constable country’.
