Best-known for her textiles, Lucienne Day is recognised as a virtuoso pattern designer and colourist.
About
Lucienne Day was an enthusiastic gardener and plant forms inspired many of her textile designs. As part of the nationwide Lucienne Day centenary celebrations, this exhibition opens in spring 2017.
The show is part of the gallery’s GROW project that promotes the benefits of engaging in horticultural activities to improve mental wellbeing. Groups and individuals within the local community who are experiencing social isolation or dealing with issues around mental health will work with Paula Day from the Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation to select works to display from the Whitworth’s extensive archive of Lucienne Day designs.
Art Alive is part of a series of demonstrations and talks based on contemporary floral art. Led by international floral designer Craig Bullock, this particular demonstration is inspired by the work of Lucienne Day. Come along and observe Bullock's creative thinking process, from research to realisation, responding to Lucienne Day's designs to create a 3D floral sculpture.
