We're launching a new season of live performance in collision with music, talks, screenings and original live events. Join us for the launch night on 8th April at 8pm for an evening of work exploring notions of culture, from the personal to the collective, from the local to the global. An evening of performance and live music by the Vibe Machine. Email us to get in free on our guestlist £3 on the door Listings: Box Piece by Katy Baird Box Piece is mapping the physical journey of one woman for one week in 2011. Where I have been and who I have encountered. It is an investigation of past and present, a moment of solidarity. The piece highlights the contrast between what is remembered and the present. It explores the idea that sometimes when we are in the present we are not present at all. http://www.katybaird.com/ Swan Song Dance by Ivan Thorley In this short re-staging of Swan Lake, the Dying Swan is revisited by the Ugly duckling (and a unicorn in this version); part swan, part clown, part naked, there's something for everyone. Swan Song was first developed at Culture Lab in Newcastle in 2007 during a motion capture workshop, then performed at Arnolfini in Bristol, The Bluecoat in Liverpool in 2008 and The International Student Puppet Festival at CSSD in London in 2009 and Shunt in 2010. http://mrthorley.com/ Eastern European for dummies: is it about sex trafficking? by Fail Better Company (UK premiere) At a time when Western society is dealing with a financial crisis the mythical Eastern European creature, with its poor accent, dry hands and bad complexion, rises from the masses of perfectly freckled, skinny jeans equipped individuals. This bizarre species manages to inflict itself in a different culture almost unobserved. Revolving around the ideas of public display and public identity, the performance exists on the border between offence and comedy, sourcing from the high-brow credibility of a museum exhibit and tackling Eastern Europeans, Eastern Europeanness and Eastern European life practices. http://failbettercompany.wordpress.com/ Featuring live music by The Vibe Machine. http://www.myspace.com/vibemachineuk About The Others: The Others is a multifunctional space rooted in the heart of N16, at the top of Stoke Newington's Church Street. We curate and host a diverse range of both emergent and established contemporary art. In addition to our exhibitions we hold an ongoing programme of events, from performances, film screenings and talks to gigs, club nights and residencies. We are here to represent and champion the others.
