A thought-provoking series of presentations to accompany Listening, the Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition at Art Exchange and Firstsite. Curated by Sam Belinfante, the exhibition examines the crossover between the visual and the sonic.

The symposium brings together artists, curators and academics to draw out key themes explored within the exhibition, and further interrogate the act of listening. Speakers (alphabetical):

Sam Belinfante
Artist and curator based in London, and curator of the Listening exhibition. Sam will be hosting the symposium. http://www.sambelinfante.com/

Mikhail Karikis
Greek/British artist based in London, exhibiting in Listening at Art Exchange. Mikhail will be giving a performance as part of the symposium. http://www.mikhailkarikis.com/

Joseph Kohlmaier
Senior lecturer in the history and theory of architecture at the Cass School of Architecture and is creative director of choral ensemble Musarc. He teaches a diploma module on sound, architecture and the city.

Cathy Lane

Holly Pester
Poet based in London, and Lecturer in Poetry and Performance at University of Essex. Holly will be discussing 'The Productive Sonics of Daydreaming: Clairaudience Materials and Hypnagogic Noise as Research'   http://www.hollypester.com/

The event is followed by live music by Apartment House at Firstsite in the evening (from 7pm).
