The artist and writer Jill Smith will be giving an illustrated talk called LIFE, PERFORMANCE, JOURNEYS, ART at Eston Arts Centre.

About

Eston Arts Centre is pleased to announce our upcoming talk by Jill Smith. Jill Smith is an artist and writer living on the Isle of Lewis in the Hebrides.

She will be giving a richly illustrated talk about her life and work at Eston Arts Centre on Tuesday June 7th at 6pm.

Her talk tells the story of her long artistic life, as she takes you on a journey through her years in the ‘60s,‘70s and early ‘80s as a comedy, then science fantasy performer known as Jill Bruce(including her appearance in 5 of the early Andrew Logan Alternative Miss Worlds, where she came 4th the year Derek Jarman won!); how, working in partnership with her then husband Bruce Lacey, she became a ritual, ceremonial Performance Artist, appearing for years at the Albion Fairs in East Anglia, art centres and universities; also performing at ancient, sacred sites and exhibiting documentation of this work with performance at several important galleries.

Her life changed dramatically when, in 1982, she walked away from all of this life and out into the landscape, spending several years making major journeys through the sacred sites of the land, mostly sleeping out with no tent, and linking ancient sacred sites by the path of her walking.

Join us at Eston Arts Centre for a fascinating evening hearing more about Jill Smith's life, performances, journeys and art
