Studio 73 is delighted to present Life in the Deep Blue: Creation out of Rawness, our summer group exhibition curated by Ivana D’Accico & Miranda Holms.
About
In May 2018 National Geographic launched an issue named Planet or Plastic, with a powerful cover featuring Jorge Gamboa’s digital illustration Iceberg Plastico which quickly became the symbol of plastic ocean pollution, a matter that is increasingly entering the mainstream view with a rising awareness towards the impact that our habits produce within the environment.Artists are not immune from this realisation, especially if we consider that they often sought inspiration from naturalistic elements as well as carried a message through their work.
With Life in the Deep Blue: Creation out of Rawness we aim to celebrate this lasting relationship between natural elements and artistic practice, with a special focus on marine aesthetic. Through a wide range of media – from digital illustration to glitch art, including sculpture and fabric print – we want to explore how nature is still a rich source of “raw material” for artists and how they celebrate its beauty.
