Colour is a place where our brain and the
universe meet. Joachim Gasquet

If you see something and try to capture it afterwards it eludes you. As well as the relative position of things, what eludes you is the overall harmony, the movement - what makes ‘it’ an ‘it’. We will consider the practice of memory in relation to drawing, as well as exploring how we perceive colours directly from observation and how we ‘feel’ colours. In our exploration of colour we will hope to achieve a mediated response, discovering how the vehicle of colour (pencils, paint etc.) creates a synthetic equivalent to what we ‘see’. With a focus on the model, students will be encouraged to enjoy the hues and tonal range of the prism. Watercolour, gouache, pastels, colour pencils and inks to be explored.
