Adam Nieman and William Samaha present an artistic collaboration at the birth of a new technology.
About
Acoustic levitation is a technology fecund with possibilities and The Levitate exhibition is an artistic response to this creative engineering in its nascent state. It uses sound to generate pockets of high and low pressure in air and small objects in these pockets can be held aloft and moved around by the pressure of the air around them. These artists offer two responses to levitation technology. One, Ecliptic Plane connects us to space; the other Pollen grounds us on Earth.Ecliptic Plane is a new installation that bridges between two ‘frames’ It draws on two rather different artistic traditions – land art and kinetic art. Land art is often about connecting viewers to the place they inhabit in a way and on a scale that makes the place strange and new. In this case, the scale is so large it encompasses the solar system. Kinetic art is about dynamic forms, but Ecliptic Plane is also about the relativity of stillness.
