Readout
26/10/12 - 16/11/12
Private View, Friday 26/10/12
6:30 - 9:30pm
Koivistoinen's current practice is concerned with ways of subverting the apparent disparity between the the tropes and norms that are âread' and âunderstood' unthinkingly everyday.
By sleight of hand and juxtaposition, Koivistoinen's subtle interventions affect the way the often appropriated subjects and objects are he uses are received and perceived.
The work reflects on the relationships and distinctions between the dramatic and the
mundane, the familiar and the unfamiliar. By slightly altering commonplace objects, or just placing them âsomewhere else', Koivistoinen's intention is not to send direct messages but rather form a setting where the dialogue between the viewer and the work relies on
subjective experience, stimulating a sense of the uncanny or of humour, or a combination of the two.
Leo Koivistoinen graduated in 2010 with a MAFA from Chelsea College of Art & Design.
