About
This show explores the fascination that the British public has had with popular American culture. It allows the viewer to gain an insight into the private lives and homes of people who swap the everyday for the glitz and fantasy of their passionate interests.Eric, a 'westerner' from Stoke on Trent is pictured in full cowboy attire in his modest council flat, surrounded by images of his hero John Wayne. Two young girls are pictured in sparkling sequinned outfits on a Sunday afternoon behind their community centre as they wait for their majorettes' class to begin.
All the images in the exhibition are intended to make the viewer question the perceptions others have of us, as opposed to the perceptions we have of ourselves. The images are designed to make us smile as much as they are intended to make us ask questions about class and society in general.
