Two Artists Exhibition
FRAGMENTS KORO IHARA - GIULIA SPERNAZZA
Inauguration Saturday 6 May 10.00 - 21.00 Saturday 6 May the FABER art gallery presents FRAMMENTS, a two-person exhibition dedicated to Koro Ihara and Giulia Spernazza. The two artists, sharing a profound relationship with the material, are placed in an aesthetic-harmonic dialogue, which underlines their cultural and conceptual differences, as well as highlighting their points of contact. The space appears split in half, in search of a mirror comparison that accentuates the respective sensory and technical perspectives. The works are essentially three-dimensional, sculptures and installations characterized by the contamination of materials: splinters, chromatic fragments that are composed and decomposed into emotional states. Koro Ihara (Osaka 1988) exhibits the works of the MADE IN THE GROUND project: earth fertilized by earthworms, glazed with gold and fired to obtain an effect between ceramic and terracotta. The CYCLING series: hot processed animal droppings with urushi. The recent works of the DYEING cycle: cochineal and silkworm excrement on silk. The artistic concept of Koro Ihara moves through the biological investigation linked to the life cycle; the living and organic materials are sublimated through ancient sculptural techniques, using elements of clear Japanese origin. I look for traces and by-products of living organisms, combine them and work with traditional techniques to create sculptures. In the works of the DYEING series I visualize color as an act that leaks from life by collecting scale insects and silkworms, I go back to the origins of nature and color, becoming aware of the moment in which color is born and then returned to matter. Giulia Spernazza (Rome 1979) presents an extract of her latest research, which began in 2020. Sculptures and installations created by working on the interaction with various materials: cement, wax, siporex, used clothing. The artist investigates the concept of home, re-construction and intimacy, exploring the idea of space as an extension of us, declining the synthesis between external and internal environment, between container and content. The material imbued with memories, years gone by and experiences evokes the everyday life present in every corner of the world, different microcosms united by the same gestures that are part of everyone's existence. The common thread of the works is entrusted to the use of solid and soft fragments imbued with links, memories, stratified stories. In creating I ideally and concretely borrow elements that belong to those who live in the same space, individual identities and realities transcended through the immersion of each fragment in white cement, a material that intends to place the works outside the story of specific events to project them into an absolute dimension. edited by Cristian Porretta from 6 May to 29 July 2023 Tuesday-Saturday 10:00-19:00 Sunday by appointment FABER art gallery via dei Banchi Vecchi 31, 00186 Rome tel 06 68808624 galleriadartefaber.com info@galleriadartefaber.com
