About

aspex is more than a gallery — it's developing into a space for questions, creating conversations and cultivating connections. But how do we convey to our visitors and the outside world what we will become? A transformation is taking place within our programming, which will now focus on an overarching question, where all activities - from exhibitions to seminars, from participatory events to how the café works — contributes to a conversation with our visitors and provides opportunities for you to get more involved and join in. To help communicate this shift in thinking aspex asked three designers — CHK Design, Red Design and Studio Baum to look at our visual identity and suggest ways of refreshing it to indicate this change of direction, without necessitating a wholesale redesign that might sever links with the gallery's past successes over the last 30 years. In the spirit of the new programme ethos, we decided to expose a process that would normally be private, between client and designer, enabling a conversation to take place about what it is to develop an organisations identity. All three designers were given the same brief and asked to work up their ideas for refreshing our brand. Join us for this event, which brings all of the designers together to talk about their concepts and discuss the thinking and rationale behind their designs.
