About
Clear Night, a new performance by Kim Brandt, debuts May 20th-27th, a collaborative presentation of ISSUE Project Room and Pioneer Works’ Artist-In-Residence programs. Clear Night is a series of related but distinct performances in which dancers deploy a variety of movement systems to proliferate tones, surfaces, and landscapes. A different work will be presented for 8 continuous days in Pioneer Works’ main gallery, with pieces ranging from fifteen minutes to several hours and featuring anywhere from one to thirty-five performers.
Evoking horizon lines, topographical maps and kinetically charged atmospheres, the movements respond to the expansive space of Pioneer Works, cultivating highly specific shapes and scales. Clear Night questions how gravity, architecture, and duration pressure motion’s drive toward inertia. How can a body of bodies work collectively to explore togetherness? How does a group work not simply in unison but as a whole—a sum that isn’t greater than its parts but that creates another organism?
Performed by Anna Adams Stark, Rebecca Cardwell, Liz Charky, Meg Clixby, Jessica Cook, Courtney Cooke, Katie Dean, Greer Dworman, Tess Dworman, Ayano Elson, Kyli Kleven, Lydia Okrent, Nora Stephens, Tara Willis and others.
