About
Keep In Touch showcases visual responses to the notion of ‘home as solace; home as exile’ from artists of the Caribbean, Latin America, East and South Asia, North and West Africa, and their diasporas. The collective work on display narrates how the identity of these artists have been challenged, misconstrued and/or transformed over time.
Founders Ravista Mehra and Zarna Hart, from India and Trinidad and Tobago respectively, are alumni of the Royal College of Art. Their ever-present contentions as immigrants to the UK permeate their practices: Broken Englizh and 3rd Wrld. For the duo, to be ‘third world’ is “to shoot through the soil head-first from the root of the earth; to exist boldly against the ‘cul de sac’ of debt and turmoil left by colonial legacy.” Their mission is to redefine, reclaim and reintroduce the term ‘third world,’ through cultivating conversations, workshops and exhibitions; of which Keep In Touch is the first. In November 2022, their partnership began with an open call which engaged +40 written submissions in 11 languages, and visual responses such as film, photography, painting, sculpture, and more. This exhibition features artists: Arber Gashi, Ani Lacy, Ayanna Blair-Ford, Gonzalo Miralles, Hamed Maiye, Harpareet Kaur Sandhu, Joud W. Binkulaib, Katrina Nzegwu, Khaver Idrees, Kohi Liu, Mairi Millar, Sammy Selin, Semin Hong, Shinye You, Suelyn Choo and Tima Rabbat in a diverse, multilingual commentary to a theme that is central to the human experience.
Housed at Host in East London, this exhibition will further Ravista & Zarna’s commitment to support unheard and unseen voices of emerging writers and artists.
