Kama Sokolnicka’s works take various forms, from collages, objects or interventions in space to sculpture.
About
Her working method is characterized by montage, which she sees as a conceptual process that she applies to materials as contrasting as fabric, wood, texts, songs and ideas, metal, plaster etc. She directs her attention to the austerity of objects and language and employs her materials correspondingly. This approach of formal reduction permitting many diverse interpretations is characteristic of Sokolnicka’s artistic practice. The technique of montage also allows her to create links between art and various fields of scientific research, e.g. sleep science, communication, botany, astronomy etc., and to discover great poetic force in the places where these disciplines overlap.
Tinnitus brings together a group of works that were produced predominantly during Sokolnicka’s stay in Künst-lerhaus Bethanien 2016. The new arrangements consist of simple forms and gestures and play with meanings, heaviness and lightness. They examine mental states experienced by individuals, which may also be socially and globally relevant.
