Julian Trevelyan & Robert Tavener- English Printmakers

About

Julian Trevelyan (1910 -
1988) was a distinguished
surrealist working alongside
Miro and Picasso in the
1930s. In 1951 he married
Mary Fedden and together
they painted murals for the
Festival of Britain. Despite
having no formal artistic
training he taught at the
Royal College of Art from
1955 - 1963 where his
students included David
Hockney.
Robert Tavener (1920 -
2004) worked in an office
before joining the army.
At the end of the war he
studied art with the army in
Germany before returning
to England. In 1952 Tavener
started lecturing at the
Medway College of Art
and in 1966 he designed a
poster for London Transport.
His work regularly featured
in Radio Times and Homes
& Gardens.
