John Wood and Paul Harrison's 'twenty six (drawing and falling things)'

Since 1993, Paul Harrison and John Wood, have been producing short films that investigate the relationship between the human body and architecture, and the tension that is created between the environment and its inhabitants. Twenty Six (Drawing and Falling Things) consists of a series of twenty six short films, each between 20 seconds to 3 minutes in length, in which the artists use simple slapstick and concise artistic actions to explore rhythm and synergy within different surroundings. Shot against a clear white background, closely resembling the drawings from which the works are developed, the film draws on the themes of comedy, tragedy and irony to identify how we interact with everyday objects and spaces. Highlights include the duo sliding around on office chairs in the back of a moving van, falling from an unbalanced table and dangling precariously from a ladder. Twenty Six (Drawing and Falling Things) has toured internationally since 2001 and in 2008 was displayed at Number 10 Downing Street, Courtesy of The Government Art Collection. Twenty Six (Drawing and Falling Things) by John Wood and Paul Harrison forms part of ‘The Art of Architecture' a series of exciting exhibitions at The Public that look at how artists engage with the built environment and how artists influence the world around us. The exhibition will include the return to West Bromwich of Will Alsop, the original architect of the building and work by architecture and interior design students from Walsall College, Birmingham City University and Sheffield Hallam. Further highlights include suspended sculptural forms from Heather and Ivan Morrison and photography from Andy Day and Rick Davies.
