About
John Melvin who was Sargant Fellow at the British School at Rome and then Painter in Residence at Herculaneum, will be showing older and recent works in oils and works on paper. The artist’s most recent paintings are all of landscape, rooted in a particular corner of the Warwickshire countryside. Their semi-abstract forms become more than mere transcriptions or metaphors for the hills and hedgerows found in that particular place. Through the stuff of paint with all its plasticity, colour and translucency, these paintings become a sensuous embodiment in their own right of both idea and place.
