Famed for his “metamechanics,” the Swiss-born artist Jean Tinguely (1925-1991) is a giant in the story of kinetic art. Nahmad Projects is proud to present the first gallery exhibition of Jean Tinguely’s work in London for almost twenty years.
Working in France, Germany and Switzerland in the post-war decades, Tinguely drew on Dada practices developed half a century before to satirize what he saw as mindless overproduction of material goods in his society. Tinguely exposed the glitches in his advanced industrial world with his irrational “machines à penser;" stimulating reflection about machines, art, and the age we live in.
