Jason Hicklin — From Co Donegal to The Inner Hebrides

Jason Hicklin's drawings and etchings are horizontal explorations of landscape in black and white, and in an infinite vocabulary of greys. From 2004 to 2008 Hicklin walked the isolated coasts of Donegal and Islay. He is drawn to these magnificent, desolate places. It is here he pitches his tent, working in his sketchbooks in the last moments of daylight or with the half light of dawn - embracing contact with nature, the unknown, the weather. The initital ‘on site' work is rediscovered in the studio when these images are translated into the large graphite drawings or onto etching plates.
