About
Jane works from a studio in North London where she has created a flower-filled courtyard garden, where she gathers the subjects that inspire her paintings.Jane's work encompass small, intense studies of individual plants and large expansive canvases of hedgerows and flower borders. She is driven by her love of plants and the English landscape, and a quiet intensity and northern light infuses her work.
She is interested in the structure of the plants but also the atmosphere they create and their relationship with the vegetation around them. Jane says: I think my botanical subjects as landscapes, exploring the interplay of light and tone and the spaces and rhythms between each plant to bring out the beauty and the drama of the forms.
Jane works in oil on linen, building up layers of colour to create carefully constructed, highly detailed paintings. An obsessive gardener, Jane is never happier than when sitting with a cup of tea and a seed catalogue amongst her plants
